Progression of chronic kidney disease often results with developing hyperkalemia; the increased serum level of potassium, which causes cardiac, neuromuscular and gastrointestinal complications. Hyperkalemia is generally associated with cardiac arhythmias and higher risk of mortality in patients on hemodialysis.
