Undergraduates Engaging in Inquiry

The desire for our students to develop inquiring minds is a common theme among teachers. Making that goal a reality often seems especially challenging. During the fall 2007 semester, as part of a joint Distinguished Teacher Scholar program and in collaboration with a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning discussion community, we have been examining a series of questions that relate to ???Undergraduates engaging in inquiry.??? These questions have included what value do students and ourselves as teachers get from our students engaging in inquiry as a means of learning, how can we model inquiry for our students, and how can we develop effective learning environments that stimulate and enhance student inquiry.
