Although the roots of the sociology of religion reach back into the past century, it was only after the latest World War that this science has come into its full swing. The author deals with some of the most recent theories of the sociology of religion: politological sociology of religion, sociology of religious market, sociology of invisible religion, functiona- listic sociologv of religion, sociology of secular religion, sociology of implicit religion, sociology of diffuse religion, sociology of folk religion and sociology of new religious movements and sects. At the end the author gives a short description of the dangers and impulses stemming from the above mentioned sociological theories for our christian faith
