Conflicts in the Balkans in 1990s revealed very clearly weaknesses of Europe in the security sphere; Europeans couldn\u27t solve the armed conflicts even inside their own continent, it was necessary to ask assistance from the United Nations or NATO, as well as the military forces offered by the United States in order to stop the aggression and conclude peaceful agreements among the warring parties. It was disappointing that the EU itself was not able to intervene in the Balkan affairs
