Polimerizacija kompozitnih materijala smatra se iznimno važnim čimbenikom dugotrajnosti kompozitnog ispuna. Kakvoća polimerizacije utječe na fizičko-mehanička svojstva, stabilnost boje, volumetrijske promjene restoracije te na biokompatibilnost samoga materijala. Neizbježna posljedica stvrdnjavanja kompozitnih materijala jest polimerizacijsko skupljanje. Iznos polimerizacijskoga skupljanja do sada se je mjerio s viπe različitih postupaka.
