Russian justification of the annexation of Crimea and Nazi Propaganda: great similarities and minor differences

The actions of the Russian Federation regarding the annexation of the Crimean Peninsula are analyzed in this article. Arguments for its justification provided by Russian scholars and politicians are researched, in particular, the right to self-determination and theory of succession of states. Attention is paid as well to similarities of such explanations with the justification of the seizure of the territories of Poland, Czechoslovakia and Lithuania by the Armed forces of Germany during the Second World War.
