Computational techniques involving additive filtering and smoothing are developed in this paper. noise A new local mean and variance algorithm is used for additive noise filtering on two dimensional arrays. This new algorithm is implemented by computing a local median and median variance (LMMV) using 3x3, 5x5, 7x7, 9x9, and 11x11 windows. Performance of this algorithm is evaluated using both a simulated test image and a real world image.
