Background: Diabetes type II (DMII) is a rapidly growing condition of dysfunctional glucose use within the body, often caused by excess intake of refined carbohydrates and low physical activity (American Diabetes Association, 2016; Centers for Disease Control [CDC], 2019a). As many as 9 out of 10 Americans are unaware they have prediabetes. Both diabetes and prediabetes show significant improvement in symptoms with diet and exercise intervention (CDC, 2019a; NDPP, 2018).
