Concurrent Validity of the House-Tree-Person and Kinetic-Family -Drawings as Depression Assessment Tools in the Non-Clinical Korean American Adolescent

This study examined the concurrent validity of House-Tree-Person (H-T-P) drawings and Kinetic-Family-Drawings (K-F-D) as measures of depression with Korean American adolescents whose parents are first generation immigrants. Thirty-five Korean American adolescents (30 U.S.-born, 5 Korean-born) were requested to make H-T-P drawings and K-F-D drawings and to complete psychological measures which included the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI)-II and the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale (TSCS):2. The K-F-D drawings were scored using the Family Drawing Depression Scale (Wright & McIntyre, 1982) and the H-T-P drawings were scored using a qualitative global 4 points Likert scale rating form. Results indicated that neither the H-T-P nor the K-F-D ratings of depression indicators were strongly correlated to the BDI-II measure of depression
