Hypothetical study of wave propagation rupture of the Bom Jardim Reservoir Dam in Uberlândia - MG

A dam burst event can cause major disasters, especially if the area downstream of the dam has been urbanized. Over the years several dams have burst, causing various disasters and killing thousands of people.To evaluate the behavior of the flood wave along the downstream side of the Bom Jardim reservoir dam, located in the southern region of the city of Uberlândia-MG, such as analyzing the depth and maximum velocity, as well as determining the development time of the rupture wave, several simulations were performed using the HEC-RAS 6.0 software, using a base terrain created by digitizing contour lines from the SURFER software. The simulations were performed analyzing piping and overtopping phenomena, comparing the different breach opening parameters obtained through empirical equations. For the simulations, it was necessary to make a rainfall-seepage transformation with the maximum recorded precipitation of 147, with a contribution basin of 398 km². From the data obtained with the equation of "FROELICH (2008) " that registered the highest peak flow, reaching 661.17 m³/s, flood maps were generated evaluating which inhabited areas would be affected by the rupture. The influence of the topography of the downstream area was also verified, since the waterfall present downstream of the dam had a great contribution in creating a damming area that was able to reduce a velocity of more than 300 m/s, thus reducing the destructive potential of the event. From the time of arrival map, it was found that the time for the wave to travel the path to that control point 9.8 km from the dam was 13 hours in addition to estimating the time of arrival of the wave front to inhabited areas.Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação)Um evento de uma ruptura de barragem pode ocasionar grandes desastres, em especial se a área a jusante da barragem foi urbanizada. Ao longo de anos diversas barragens romperam causando diversos desastres matando milhares de pessoas. Para avaliar o comportamento da onda de cheia ao longo da jusante da barragem do reservatório Bom Jardim, localizado na região sul da cidade de Uberlândia-MG, tal como analisar a profundidade e velocidade máxima além de determinar o tempo de desenvolvimento da onda de ruptura, foram realizadas diversas simulações utilizando o software HEC-RAS 6.0, utilizando um terreno base, criado com a digitalização de curvas de nível a partir do software SURFER. As simulações foram realizadas analisando fenômenos de piping e galgamento, comparando os diferentes paramentos de abertura de brecha obtidos através de equações empíricas. Para as simulações foi necessário fazer uma transformação chuva-vazão com a máxima precipitação registrada de 147 mm, com uma bacia de contribuição de 398 km². A partir dos dados obtidos com a equação de “FROELICH (2008) ”que registrou a maior vazão de pico, atingindo 661,17 m³/s, foram gerados mapas de inundação avaliando quais áreas habitadas seriam atingidas pelo rompimento. Também se verificou a influência da topografia da área de jusante, dado que a cachoeira presente a jusante de barragem teve grande contribuição em criar uma área de represamento que conseguiu reduzir uma velocidade de mais 118 m/s, diminuindo assim o potencial destrutivo do evento. A partir do mapa de tempo de chegada constatou-se que o tempo para a onda percorrer o trajeto até que ponto de controle a 16,6 km da barragem foi de 5,48 horas, além de estimar o tempo de chegada da frente onda às áreas habitadas
