O desafio da tradução intersemiótica, intrassemiótica, interlinguística e intralinguística do livro Cores das Cores para crianças deficientes visuais

This senior thesis presents the challenges of translating a Brazilian children’s book into English, and then having both languages transcribed into Braille with a view to publishing an inclusive, supplemental teaching material to be used in the language learning process of both visually impaired children and seeing children. More specifically, it addresses and analyzes a proposal of intralingual, interlingual, inter-semiotic and intra-semiotic translation (JAKOBSON, 1959; ECO, 2007) of Nestrovski’s (2006) Portuguese-language book Cores das cores having visually impaired from birth as its main target audience and children in general as a secondary target audience. The book translation is a challenge because it contains both actual and invented colors which may be further interpreted or have its meaning broadened in view of the interaction between its linguistic content and image content. The proposal builds on both translation studies and inclusive education frameworks, and follows a series of procedures designed to achieve a translation that is potentially adequate to the intended reader. The final translation is the result of an initial version that has been changed after a series of interactions of the translator with her supervisor and with a group of seeing adults and another group of visually impaired adults. The steps herein described reveal the potential of such endeavor and its contributions to understanding translation as a phenomenon that goes beyond “mere” language content. They also imply the translator should leave its workbench for a moment and interact with people in order to translate a material of which s/he initially believes to have little domain and deliver a product with which s/he wishes to effectively captivate the target audience.Pesquisa sem auxílio de agências de fomentoTrabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação)Esta monografia apresenta os desafios de se realizar a tradução de um livro literário infantil nacional para a língua inglesa, sendo ambas as línguas transcritas para o braille de forma que o livro possa, no futuro, servir de material paradidático inclusivo no ensino de crianças deficientes visuais e crianças videntes. Trata-se, mais especificamente, da construção e análise de uma proposta de tradução intralinguística, interlinguística, intersemiótica e intrassemiótica (JACKOBSON, 1959; ECO, 2007) do livro Cores das cores (NESTROVSKI, 2006) visando como público-alvo primário a crianças que nasceram sem visão e como público-alvo secundário a crianças em geral. O livro se coloca como um desafio por abordar cores reais e inventadas que são passíveis de serem interpretadas criativamente ou terem sua significação ampliada em interação com suas imagens coloridas. Apresenta-se a proposta, revestida de embasamento teórico dos Estudos da Tradução e da Educação Inclusiva, bem como os procedimentos adotados para se chegar a uma tradução potencialmente adequada para o leitor intencionado. Essa tradução foi fruto de uma versão inicial alterada com base em interações com o orientador e em interações com um grupo de videntes e outro grupo de deficientes visuais. Os percursos aqui mostrados revelam o potencial da proposta e suas contribuições para a compreensão da tradução como um fenômeno que ultrapassa o “mero” contato entre duas línguas. Também sinalizam como o tradutor pode sair de sua mesa de trabalho e interagir com pessoas com vistas a traduzir um material do qual ele acredita inicialmente ter pouco domínio e gerar um produto com o qual deseja efetivamente cativar o público-alvo
