Selective video encryption using chaotic system in the SHVC extension

International audienceIn this paper we investigate a selective video encryption inthe scalable HEVC extension (SHVC). The SHVC extensionencodes the video in several layers corresponding to differentspatial and quality representations of the video. We proposea selective encryption solution using a chaotic-based encryptionsystem. The proposed solution encrypts a set of sensitiveparameters with a minimum complexity overhead, at constantbitrate and SHVC format compliant.Experimental results compare the performance of three encryptionschemes: encrypt only the lowest layer, all layers,and only the highest layer. The first two schemes achieve ahigh security level with a drastic degradation in the decodedvideo, while the last scheme enables a perceptual video encryptionby decreasing the quality of the highest layer belowthe quality of the clear layers
