Background: Several studies of simultaneous pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP) and direct left atrial pressure (LAP) in cardiac surgical patients have shown good correlation between these measurements. However, discrepancy between PCWP and LAP have been reported after cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB).
