Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), also known as fluorinated surfactants, are a class of emerging contaminants. Historical use of PFAS for commercial applications has caused widespread contamination in surface water, groundwater and soil/sediments worldwide, with broad environmental and human health implications.
