Assessment of Effectiveness of Combined Administration of Eye Exercises, Trataka and Eye Wash on Vision and Aesthenopia among College Students with Refractive Errors

BACKGROUND: Visual disturbance and refractory errors is represented as one of the most complex problem in the field of ophthalmology and has been of great interest ever since the dawn of human life. Certain group of yogic practices helps in improving the vision extensively. This study is performed to evaluate the effect of eye exercises, trataka and eye wash on vision and asthenopic symptoms in college students with refractive errors. AIM OF THE STUDY: To assess the effectiveness of selected yoga practices on vision and asthenopic symptoms in people with refractive errors. OBJECTIVES: 1. To study the effect of selected yoga practices on asthenopic symptoms in people with refractive errors. 2. To study the effect of selected yoga practices on vision in people with refractive errors. METHODS: A total of eighty subjects of both genders, aged 19.99±1.54 years were randomly assigned into two groups after satisfying the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Experimental group (EG, n=40) and control group (CG, n=40). Both groups were assessed at baseline and after 30 days with Snellen’s chart and asthenopic symptoms questionnaire. 40 subjects of experimental group and 40 subjects of control group completed the study successfully. RESULTS: The experimental group showed significant improvement in the vision and decrease in the asthenopic symptoms as compared to the control group. CONCLUSION: Practicing eye exercises, trataka and eye wash for continuous 30 days showed improvement in the refractory errors particularly myopia and hypermetropia
