Serum osteopontino levels in psoriasis vulgaris patients and its association with oxidative streess

Psoriasis, etyolojisi kesin olarak bilinmeyen, kronik seyirli, enflamatuar, hiperproliferatif bir deri hastalığıdır. Etyopatogenezde, oksidatif stresin de rolü olduğu düşünülmektedir. Son zamanlarda, osteopontinin psoriasis patogenezinde rol aldığını savunan çalışmalar yayınlanmaktadır. Psoriasis hastalarında, osteopontin ile oksidatif stres ilişkisine dair yapılan çalışmaya ise literatürde rastlanmamıştır. Çalışmamızda psoriasis vulgaris ve kontrol hastalarında osteopontin, total antioksidan status, total oksidan status serum düzeyleri ölçüldü. Osteopontin ve oksidatif stresin psoriasis ile ilişkisine, psoriasis hastalarında osteopontin ile oksidatif stres arası ilişkiye bakıldı. Psoriasis Alan Şiddet İndeksi ile osteopontin, total antioksidan status, total oksidan status ve oksidatif stres indeksi düzeyleri arası istatistiksel ilişki de psoriasis hastaları özelinde incelendi. Psoriasis vulgaris hastaları ile kontrol grubu arasında osteopontin, total antioksidan status, oksidatif stres indeksi düzeyleriyle ilgili istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark saptanmadı. Total oksidan status değerlerinde ise negatif ilişkili korelasyon bulundu. Psoriasis Alan Şiddet İndeksi ile osteopontin, total antioksidan status, total oksidan status, oksidatif stres indeksi arasında anlamlı istatistiki korelasyon tespit edilmedi. Sonuç olarak, psoriasis etyopatogenezinde osteopontinin rol oynadığını bildiren çalışmalar olmakla birlikte sayıları yeterli değildir. Oksidatif stresin, etyopatogenezde rolü olduğunu gösteren çalışmaların sayısı daha fazla olmakla birlikte, kullanılan oksidatif stres belirteçlerine göre ilişki kurulamayan çalışmalar da mevcuttur.. Araştırmamızda, psoriasis vulgaris hastalarında, kontrol grubuna göre osteopontin ve oksidatif stres belirteç düzeyleri arasında anlamlı fark saptamadık. Psoriasis hastaları özelinde, osteopontin ile oksidatif stres korelasyon ilişkisi açısından anlamlı istatistiksel fark tespit etmedik. Psoriasis etyopatogenezinde osteopontin ve oksidatif stres rollerinin daha iyi aydınlatılması için geniş ve kapsamlı çalışmalara ihtiyaç duyulduğu kanısındayız.Abstract, Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory, hyperproliferative skin disease of unknown etiology. Oxidative stress is thought to play a role in the etiopathogenesis of psoriasis. Recent studies suggest that osteopontin is involved in the pathogenesis of psoriasis. Literature review showed no published studies on the relationship between oxidative stress and osteopontin in psoriasis patients. In our study, we measured the serum levels of osteopontin, total antioxidant status and total oxidant status in psoriasis vulgaris and control patients. We investigated both the association of psoriasis with osteopontin and oxidative stress and the relationship between osteopontin and oxidative stress in psoriasis patients. In addition, we also investigated the statistical association of Psoriasis Area Severity Index with osteopontin, total antioxidant status, total oxidant status and oxidative stress index levels in psoriasis patients. There was no statistically significant difference between the patients with psoriasis vulgaris and the control group in terms of osteopontin, total antioxidant status, oxidative stress index levels, whereas a negative correlation was found regarding total oxidant status levels. In addition, there was no statistically significant correlation between Psoriasis Area Severity Index and osteopontin, total antioxidant status, total oxidant status and oxidative stress index levels. In conclusion, there is a scarce number of studies reporting that osteopontin is involved in the etiopathogenesis of psoriasis. Despite the higher number of studies demonstrating the role of oxidative stress in the etiopathogenesis of psoriasis, there are also studies that cannot prove a relationship with oxidative stress markers. In our study, we found no statistically significant difference in osteopontin and oxidative stress markers between psoriasis vulgaris patients and the control group. Moreover, we also found no statistically significant correlation between osteopontin and oxidative stress among patients with psoriasis vulgaris. We believe that further extensive and comprehensive studies are needed to better elucidate the roles of osteopontin and oxidative stress in the etiopathogenesis of psoriasis
