Social media is an overlooked tool in qualitative health research due to limited methodological guidance in literature. While internet methods have been proven useful throughout many disciplines, using social media in research without literature support can lead to unforeseen practical and ethical problems. But, as researchers develop guidelines and publish their findings on the effectiveness of social media, these barriers can be overcome.
