The article endeavors to demonstrate that Zionism was not merely an answer to anti-Jewish pogroms in Russia or a continuation of faith maintained by Jewish community but above all it was a change in the way of thinking supported as well as created by the mass media. It investigates the key concepts of the Zionist thought present in the press and discusses the key figures of newly invented Jewish tradition with reference to Max Scheler’s typology that distinguishes between a leader and a role model. The article also elaborates on the functions that the characters of Jabotinsky and Joseph Trumpeldor played in the press of Warsaw ghetto, namely, they embodied an ideal of a new Jew who does not shy from fight.
