This research is investigating the development of self-forming wearable composite structures by 3D printing semi-elastic embossed patterns out of semi-elastic Thermoplastic Polyurethane 95 filament on pre-stretched textiles and releasing the stress after the printing has been completed. In particular, we will present and compare two methods of ‘file to fabrication’ techniques for generating self-forming textile shell structures: one based on printed patterns related to their stress line simulation and a second based on modified geometrical patterns in relation to their curvature analysis.
