Opening the black box of anti-bullying programs : an investigation of the effects, mediating roles, and implementation of moral disengagement and class norms as anti-bullying program components

As most evaluation studies assess anti-bullying program components in combination, omit the testing of hypothesized mediating paths, and do not take implementation into account, our understanding of how these programs work and our knowledge of their effective components remain limited. In addition, the limited effectiveness of anti-bullying programs pointed out by meta-analyses emphasizes the need to develop innovative interventions that reflect scientific advances. This thesis aims to make a first step in opening the ‘black box’ of anti-bullying programs by addressing the three aforementioned methodological gaps, as well as to test the effectiveness of two anti-bullying components that have been suggested as promising directions for prevention but have rarely, if at all, been targeted as such in programs: moral disengagement and class norms.(PSYE - Sciences psychologiques et de l'éducation) -- UCL, 202
