In this paper, a Four Dimensional Space Vector Modulation (4D-SVM) is implemented for five phase Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) to improve the performance of the inverter. The 4D-SVM control technique generates switching pulses for five phase VSI system. The reference vector for 4D-SVM is identified by tracking subcubes and prisms located in the complex 4D-cubic region. The 4D-SVM for five phase inverter includes 32 switching state vectors; all the switching states are non-redundant switching states, which are located in 32 vertices of the 4D-cube.
