Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) are mainly constituted by ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease (CD), which represents chronic autoimmune conditions that affect the homeostasis of the intestinal mucosa. The causes related of IBD remain unclear. However, recent studies have shown that both genetic background and environmental factors are involved in the pathogenesis of IBDs. In this sense, in the past years genome-wide association studies have identified numerous alleles associated with the risk of CD.
