The site of Ghent/Hogeweg was among the first Bronze Age burials mounds to be discovered by aerial photography in the 1980’s. In 2011, a new building project on the site led to a large scale excavation. This resulted in the ascertainment that the cemetery consisted of 11 burial mounds situated and aligned on the top of a sand ridge. As usual in sandy Flanders only the ditches of the monuments were preserved. Only one cremation grave was discovered. Absolute dating situated the occupation from the Late Neolithic until Bronze Age
