This study investigates the effects of the deliberative and implemental mindset on hyperbolic discounting, which is defined as the discounting of future outcomes when the delay of the outcome is increased. The mindset theory is routed in the Rubicon model of action phases (developed by Heckhausen and Gollwitzer) and mindsets are described as cognitive orientations which enhance the processing of mindset-congruous information. In order to test the effects of these two mindsets on hyperbolic discounting, elaborated questionnaires are used to induce the mindsets (Gollwitzer et al., 1990).
