Der Einfluss von Bewusstseinslagen auf das Hyperbolic Discounting

This study investigates the effects of the deliberative and implemental mindset on hyperbolic discounting, which is defined as the discounting of future outcomes when the delay of the outcome is increased. The mindset theory is routed in the Rubicon model of action phases (developed by Heckhausen and Gollwitzer) and mindsets are described as cognitive orientations which enhance the processing of mindset-congruous information. In order to test the effects of these two mindsets on hyperbolic discounting, elaborated questionnaires are used to induce the mindsets (Gollwitzer et al., 1990). The discount rate is measured with the help of the monetary choice questionnaire (Kirby et al., 1999) and the mindset manipulation is tested with another questionnaire developed by Gollwitzer and Taylor (1995). The results of the study show that there is no mindset effect on hyperbolic discounting, although an interesting negative correlation between income and the discount rate could be detected
