The objective of this research was to increase the life span of local oranges through hydrocolloid coatings and control of postharvest storage temperatures. We considered three types of coating and a control treatment, in combination with two temperature levels for storage (25°C±3°C y 8°C±2°C). Coatings were made from various hydrocolloid matrixes (carboxymethylcellulose, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose and unflavored gelatin), glycerol (used as a plasticizer) and water (used as a solvent).
