Expérimentation à grande échelle d'applications pour tablettes pour favoriser l'apprentissage de la lecture et de l'anglais oral

National audienceThe purpose of the FLUENCE Project (e-Fran, PIA2) was to develop three original tablet computer games aiming to improve reading skills (EVASION and ELARGIR) and oral comprehension in English as a second language (LUCIOLE). The effectiveness of the applications was checked on a largesample of pupils from the academy of Grenoble (France) through a three-year follow-up study. The 722 participants were followed from Grade 1 to Grade 3 (ages 6-8). They were trained during 10 hours using either one of the two reading applications or the English application. The results show that reading skills at the end of Grade 2 improved for the group that received both EVASION training in Grade 1 and ELARGIR training in Grade 2. After one year of training (in either Grade 1 or Grade 2), the students using LUCIOLE showed better oral English comprehension than their peers.Le projet FLUENCE (e-Fran, PIA2) a permis la réalisation de trois applications mobiles visant à améliorer les performances des élèves en lecture (EVASION et ELARGIR) et en compréhension orale de l'anglais (LUCIOLE). Les applications ont été déployées dans les classes de l'académie de Grenoble (France) auprès de 722 élèves suivis du CP au CE2. L'entraînement d'une durée totale de 10h s'étalait sur 10 semaines. Chaque année, des groupes d'élèves appariés utilisaient l'une des deux applications lecture ou l'application d'anglais. Les résultats montrent que s'entraîner avec EVASION en CP puis ELARGIR en CE1 améliore la vitesse de lecture en fin de CE1. L'entraînement avec LUCIOLE conduit à améliorer la compréhension de l'anglais oral des élèves tant en CP qu'en CE1
