A description of the role of the intercity bus as a common carrier

Includes bibliographical references.Includes maps.This study describes the role of the Intercity Bus as a common carrier of commodities. The movements of one intercity bus carrier, Greyhound Bus Lines, are discussed with regard to their macro- and micro-regional destinations. The categories include the bus territories, and the states and cities serviced. These divisions are analyzed with regard to the frequency of shipments, weight of the shipments, express rates, and the population of the respective area. This empirical analysis is supplemented with a quantitative analysis. Correlation analysis is used to determine the reliability of the conclusions and to demonstrate the lack of total predictability of movements by buses. This analysis partially substantiates accepted transportation theory of movement and spatial interaction.M.S. (Master of Science
