The development of an equipment inventory system using data processing techniques for School District U-46, Elgin, Illinois

The purpose of this study was to determine the best method of developing an equipment inventory system using data processing equipment for school District U-46, Elgin, Illinois. Methods and Procedures. A plan for recording necessary information concerning equipment was developed. After discussion with Mr. Robert F. Skelly, Assistant Superintendent for Business Affairs, District U-46, Elgin, Illinois, this plan was modified and inventory recording system was commenced. Following the original recording of information it was found that several changes in the original plan was necessary. Summary of Conclusions. These conclusions may be drawn as a result of the findings of this research: 1. School districts, regardless of size, should consider establishing an equipment inventory control system. 2. Maximum utilization of equipment is possible which could minimize unnecessary capital expenditures. 3. Equipment inventory records aid in establishing insurance values and are available to support proof of any loss. 4. Facts concerning equipment are readily available to the administration for cost comparisons, record of durability, and other desired data. 5. The total value of all equipment or any type of equipment can be determined. 6. The equipment inventory system will not assure the school district that assets will not be lost, stolen or destroyed, but it will show what items are missing so that corrective action may be taken.M.S.
