I will define, explain, and comment on metafiction in terms of what it is, when it began, and how it works as a technique in chapter 1. Also, I will discuss Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra in terms of his influence on the later development of metafiction, referencing examples of metafictional episodes in El ingenioso hidalgo don Quijote de la Mancha Volume I and II in chapter 2.
