Geology for planning in Bristol and Oswego townships, Kendall County, Illinois

Includes bibliographical references.Includes maps.Due to the geographic position of Kendall County, Illinois, relative to the greater metropolitan area of Chicago, expansion of population and industry is creating greater competition for available land, particularly in the critical areas of Bristol and Oswego Townships. Consequently, the Kendall County Planning Commission found it advisable to undertake a basic geological resource inventory of these townships as a basis for land-use planning. The collection and interpretation of the geologic and hydrologic data involved detailed surficial mapping and subsurface study resulting in differentiation of all geologic units on the basis of composition and physical properties. The specific goals toward which these data were gathered were to provide information on the construction characteristics, waste disposal suitability, ground-water availability, and disposition of mineral resources. Consequently, evaluation of the geologic and hydrologic information has led to preparation of maps in which areas are evaluated for specific land uses. These maps have a color coding system like that of a traffic stop light, indicating the suitability of areas for the particular type of anticipated use. This natural resource approach will have made its valuable contribution in supplying the essential information to the county planner for coordinated land-use planning in these critical areas of Kendall County.M.S.
