Les inscriptions de Barāqish: Apport à la connaissance de l'antique cité de Yathill et du royaume de Maʿīn

International audienceThe archaeological area of Barāqish, including the extra muros sanctuaries of Shaqab al-Manaṣṣa and Darb aṣ-Ṣabī, yielded an exceptional amount of pre-Islamic South Arabian inscriptions. Over 600 texts provide us with an insight into the political, social, and economic history of the ancient kingdoms of Sabaʾ and Maʿīn.This contribution draws up an inventory of the inscriptions from the site and considers this corpus under the angle of ancient toponymy, cultural and architectural history. The examination of the textual content, once put in chronological order, allows for the identification of a set of ancient monuments, the date of their construction, thus highlighting the monumental evolution of the site. In the meantime, the confrontation of both epigraphy and archaeological data provided by the recent Italian excavations enables us to propose a new chronological sequence of the kings of Maʿīn and to reconsider the date of inscription RÉS 3022 and that of the reign of Abīyadaʿ Yathaʿ and his son Waqahʾīl Riyām.La zone archéologique de Barāqish, incluant les sanctuaires extra-muros de Shaqab al-Manaṣṣa et Darb aṣ-Ṣabī, a livré une quantité exceptionnelle d'inscriptions sudarabiques. Plus de 600 textes nous donnent un aperçu de l'histoire politique, sociale et économique des anciens royaumes de Sabaʾ et de Maʿīn. Cette contribution dresse un inventaire des inscriptions du site et considère ce corpus sous l'angle de la toponymie ancienne, de l'histoire culturelle et architecturale. L'examen du contenu textuel, une fois mis en ordre chronologique, permet d'identifier un ensemble de monuments antiques, la date de leur construction, mettant ainsi en évidence l'évolution monumentale du site. Par ailleurs, la confrontation des données épigraphiques et archéologiques fournies par les fouilles italiennes récentes permet de proposer une nouvelle séquence chronologique des rois de Maʿīn et de reconsidérer la date de l'inscription RÉS 3022 et celle du règne d'Abīyadaʿ Yathaʿ et de son fils Waqahʾīl Riyā
