La « blanchité » au miroir de l'africanité. Migrations et constructions sociales urbaines d'une assignation identitaire peu explorée (Dakar)

International audienceWhiteness in the Mirror of Africanity: Migrations and Social Urban Constructions of an Underexplored Identity Assignment (Dakar, Senegal). — The concept of “whiteness” is rarely addressed in social sciences. However, it constitutes an ethnicized and transnational reference which is used in the racial expression of differences and stigmas. It may also question the social representations of North-South borders. The assignment of ethnic identities is not only moving from the Western world to other countries. Then it is relevant to analyze its social constructions and plurality within globalized worlds nowadays. This paper questions especially Black-White interactions in the urban society of Dakar (Senegal) from a study of North American students' migrations and French professional expatriation. As the concept of “whiteness” goes beyond color matters, this analysis also includes the mechanisms of social categorization and hierarchy that this concept builds in the Senegalese society, in the mirror of “africanity”.La notion de « blanchité » fait l'objet de peu de recherches académiques. Elle constitue pourtant une matrice ethnicisée transnationale, mobilisée dans l'expression sociale des différences et des stigmates, qui questionne les frontières Nord-Sud. Les assignations « ethniques » ne circulant pas seulement de l'Occident vers l'Ailleurs, il apparaît pertinent d'analyser leurs constructions plurielles dans les mondes sociaux contemporains globalisés. Cet article interroge particulièrement le face-à-face « Noir-Blanc » au sein de la société urbaine dakaroise (Sénégal), à partir des mobilités universitaires nord-américaines et de l'expatriation salariale française. La notion de « blanchité » dépassant la question chromatique, l'analyse inclut les mécanismes de catégorisation et de hiérarchisation sociale que cette notion construit localement, au miroir de l'« africanité »
