International audienceIn the eighteenth century, the Grande Fabrique, an organized web of silk workshops, dominated Lyon’s textile sector. The weaver’s workshop, which in many cases was also the family home, was a place where men and women worked side by side and the differences in tasks and wages reflected gender norms. The aim of this article, which draws on previously unexploited sources, is to analyse the power struggles and inequality of status within the Grande Fabrique from the gender perspective.
