Each year, approximately 11 million women are exposed to malaria in pregnancy (MiP) in sub-Saharan Africa; the main consequences being maternal anemia (MA) and low birth weight (LBW) of the newborn. WHO recommends the use of insecticide-treated nets and intermittent preventive treatment (IPT) in areas of high transmission. The use of this strategy has led to a decrease in the prevalence of MiP. The infections detected by PCR called "submicroscopic" constitute a large reservoir of infections and their impact on the health of populations remains poorly known.
