Disciplining and schooling practices: Photographic records in the deaf context.

This master thesis presents a research affiliated to the Master’s Degree Program in Education from the Federal University of Pelotas. The investigation has taken place in a school for the deaf in Rio Grande do Sul, and had the objective of analyzing disciplining and schooling practices that were registered in photographic media, and the look upon these images allowed the analysis of the constitution of the schooling space. The methodology was constituted of visits to the institution, and the approximation to its photographic acquis, in which 64 images were selected, with a temporal clipping between the years of 1960 to 2005. After this step, two narratives were produced individually, with the previously selected images, and then presented to the interviewees. The subjects invited to perform these narratives have been present in different moments of the schooling in this particular school and have acted in different ways to assist the constitution of this space. After these two steps, the analytical process of the images began, and the interpretative method of images was used as a support. As the analysis proceeded, based in a Foucauldian perspective approach, as well as in theoreticians from the Deaf Studies field, evidence of disciplining and schooling practices that have become recurrent throughout the research process, and that are associated with different forms of disciplining, have emerged, through: a. the practices of oralism; b. rehabilitation of the body through mechanical devices; c. practices through workshops; d. school production through sports and signed choir. The approximation within the school acquis enabled a sharpened look on schooling of deaf subjects, the disciplining movements the school performs on them and the subjectivity produced there.Sem bolsaEsta dissertação apresenta uma pesquisa vinculada ao curso de mestrado do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação da Universidade Federal de Pelotas. A investigação foi realizada em uma escola de surdos do Rio Grande do Sul, e teve por objetivo analisar práticas de disciplinamento e de escolarização registradas em fotografias e, com isso, este olhar sobre as imagens permitiu analisar a constituição deste espaço de escolarização. O percurso metodológico se deu através de visitas realizadas à instituição, bem como da aproximação ao seu acervo fotográfico, do qual foram selecionadas 64 imagens, havendo um recorte temporal entre os anos de 1960 a 2005. Posteriormente a esta etapa, foram produzidas, individualmente, duas narrativas, tendo como base as imagens previamente selecionadas e disponibilizadas às entrevistadas. As convidadas a realizar as narrativas são sujeitos que estiveram presentes em diversos momentos de escolarização desta escola e atuaram de diferentes maneiras para a constituição deste espaço. Após estas duas etapas, iniciou-se o processo analítico das imagens, quando se utilizou como suporte as contribuições do método interpretativo de imagens. No decorrer das análises realizadas, a partir de uma aproximação à perspectiva foucaultiana, bem como aos teóricos do campo dos Estudos Surdos, emergiram enunciados de práticas de disciplinamento e escolarização que se tornaram recorrentes no decorrer da pesquisa, associadas a diferentes formas de disciplinamento através: a. das práticas de oralização; b. da reabilitação do corpo através de dispositivos mecânicos; c. de práticas através de ofícios; d. da maquinaria escolar e suas produções através do desporto e do coral sinalizado. A aproximação junto ao acervo da escola possibilitou aguçar o olhar sobre a escolarização dos sujeitos surdos, os disciplinamentos que a escola exerce sob esses corpos e as subjetividades que ali são produzidas
