Parents\u27 perception regarding childhood obesity and children\u27s body mass index

The study used a descriptive correlational research with 319 respondents from Dasma 4, Barangay Salawag, City of Dasmarinas, Cavite. The researchers used simple random sampling. The study utilized a self-made questionnaire to measure the variables of the study. Frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test for independent means, analysis of variance, Pearson’s r and Phi coefficient were the statistical tools used in the study. Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions were obtained: 1) The study revealed that out of 319 respondents, most of the respondents were ages 30 to 39 years old, most of them were females, and attained college education, with a family income of 10,000 and below; 2) The study revealed that the respondents have a neutral perception regarding childhood obesity; 3) Most of the respondents have an underweight child; 4) The respondent’s perception regarding childhood obesity does not significantly differ according to age, gender, and educational attainment. On the other hand, the respondent’s perception regarding childhood obesity significantly differs according to monthly family income. Significant difference exactly fell between parents with monthly income of 10,001 to 29,999 and 40,000 and above; 5) There is no significant relationship between the parents’ perception regarding childhood obesity and children’s body mass index; 6) There is a significant relationship between the parent’s perception regarding body mass index and the actual body mass index of their children
