Cultural beliefs and practices regarding maternal and child care of selected mothers in Nasugbu, Batangas

This study utilized the descriptive correlational research design. Four hundred eighty-two (482) mothers from Lumbangan, Nasugbu, Batangas were selected as respondents using purposive sampling. An adopted questionnaire translated in Filipino was used in this study. Frequency, percentage, mean, f-test, t-test and Pearson correlation coefficient (r) were employed to analyze data. Based on the findings from the study, the following conclusions were obtained: (1) Majority of the respondents were from the 40-90 years age group, have a secondary level of education, with an income of P10,000 and below, have been born in Nasugbu, Batangas, resident for more than 20 years, Catholic and obtained their medical health care services at the hospitals; (2) The respondents have a moderate level of cultural belief and extent of practice during prenatal, postpartum and during the neonatal period. The respondents were inclined with the common cultural beliefs and practices regarding maternal and child care that were lived and passed from different generations; (3) There is significant difference on the level of cultural beliefs regarding maternal and child care during prenatal, postpartum and during the neonatal care when the respondents are grouped according to age, educational attainment, family income, place of birth, years of residency, religious affiliation and source of medical care. There is no significant difference on the extent of practice regarding maternal and child care when the respondents are grouped according to family income. Age, educational attainment, place of birth, years of residency, religious affiliation and source of medical care show significant difference
