The relationship of the quality of life and the level of hope of patients undergoing chemotherapy in selected hospitals in Metro Manila

The descriptive-correlational method was applied in this study which involved 100 patients undergoing chemotherapy in selected hospitals in Metro Manila chosen using non-proportional quota sampling. The data gathering instruments used were the Quality of Life Scale (QOLS) and the Herth Hope Scale (HHS). Statistical treatments employed were percentage, frequency, mean, standard deviation, t-test and f-test. Based on the findings, the following conclusions were drawn: (1) Majority of the respondents were 35- 50 years old, male, married and earn P10,000 and below; (2) Most of them were Catholic and have other cancer types such as bone, bone marrow, bronchogenic, cervical, colon, colo-rectal, endometrial, Ewing’s sarcoma, liver, lymphoma, oral cavity, osteosarcoma, prostate, renal, thyroid and uterine cancers; (3) The quality of life of patients undergoing chemotherapy in selected hospitals in Metro Manila is good; (4) The level of hope of patients undergoing chemotherapy in selected hospitals in Metro Manila is high; (5) There were no significant differences in the quality of life of patients undergoing chemotherapy in selected hospitals in Metro Manila when grouped according to age, civil status, religion, and type of cancer. However, there is a significant difference when the respondents are grouped according to gender and socio-economic status; (6) There were no significant differences in the level of hope of patients undergoing chemotherapy in selected hospitals in Metro Manila when grouped according to age, civil status, religion, and type of cancer. However, there is a significant difference when the respondents are grouped according to socio-economic status; (7) There is moderately small positive correlation in the quality of life and the level of hope of patients undergoing chemotherapy in selected hospitals in Metro Manila
