The relationship between level of hope and level of coping response of single parents in selected barangays in Dasmarinas Bagong Bayan, Bayan

Descriptive-correlation design was used to determine the relationship between level of hope and level of coping response of single parents in selected Barangays in Area DBB. A total of 150 respondents were selected using purposive non-quota sampling. A questionnaire type of survey was adapted from the instrument used in the study of Dr. Herth to obtain the information on the level of hope of single parent. Statistical measures used were mean, standard deviation, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), independen T-test and Pearson’s r or Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient. Based on the findings, the following conclusions were drawn: (1) Majority of the single parents were female, 40 years old and above, elementary graduate, had a monthly family income of above P20,000, and non-Catholic; (2) The overall mean on the level of hope of all respondents was 2.47 interpreted as low level of hope; (3) The proactive and avoidance coping had a mean score of 2.48 and 2.43, respectively, which were verbally interpreted as coping response to a limited extent (CRLE). The reflective coping had a mean score of 2.63, preventive coping had a mean score of 2.55, instrumental coping had a mean score of 2.60, emotional coping had a mean score of 2.58, and strategic coping had a mean score 2.58 which were verbally interpreted as coping response to a moderate extent (CRME
