Commonly used occupational therapy behavior management strategies implemented by SPED teachers in Cavite in handling children with ADHD : implications to OT management

The research study aimed to determine the common OT behavior management strategies used by SPED teachers in Cavite in handling children with ADHD and how frequent these strategies were used. Specifically, this study aims to determine the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of age, sex, and graduate courses, to identify their behavior management strategies, and determine how frequent the SPED teachers used the common occupational therapy behavior management strategies in handling children with ADHD. The study was conducted in different SPED schools in Imus, Dasmarinas, and Bacoor, Cavite. The target respondents of this study were only limited to those who have graduate courses, ages 23-50 years old regardless of the sex. Questionnaires were distributed to each school, and were collected at the same day, while some were collected after a few days. The respondents answered the research tool provided by the researchers in order to obtain the information needed. The researchers ranked the strategies used according to the highest to lowest mean scores. Based on the results and discussion of this study, SPED teachers implement the majority of the OT behavior management strategies in handling children with ADHD, while there were a few strategies that are not being used. The researchers believe that the respondents may need to collaborate with occupational therapists in handling children with ADHD in terms of the strategies they are using
