Speaking fundamental frequency and range of 18 to 20-year-old Filipino male and female young adults using a standard reading passage

The study used a quantitative descriptive research design. It was conducted in De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute-College of Rehabilitation Sciences. Participants were 18-20 years old young Filipino male and female adults from a subset of the population in De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute. Ten (10) participants met the inclusion criteria for the study. They were selected through purposive sampling technique. The participants were tasked with sustaining /a/ for five (5) seconds then asked to read the rainbow passage. The sustained phonation of /a/ was used to screen for voice disorders. The voice sampling was recorded using Audacity and analyzed using Pratt. Value obtained was computed using descriptive analysis such as mean, standard deviation and range. The mean speaking fundamental frequency of Filipino young adults during standard reading passage were SF0 = 217.93 Hz (± 28.07) for females, and SF0 = 129.343 Hz for the male participant. The speaking fundamental frequency range obtained from the female participants is SF0Range = 403.07 (±8.56) Hz, and SF0Range = 224.596 Hz from the male participant. The study was able to obtain the SF0 and SF0Range of the population. While multiple studies were able to support the result of the SF0, the lack of literature present for the SF0Range indicates further research is needed in this area
