Knowledge and attitude on human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome among residents in Trece Martires City, Cavite.

This study aimed to determine the knowledge and attitude on HIV/AIDS among residents of Trece Martires City, Cavite in 2013 and its difference when they are grouped according to age, gender, sexual orientation, educational attainment, and civil status. It used correlational research design and using the purposive sampling technique, 400 respondents were involved from Trece Martires City, Cavite. The questionnaire used was self-made designed with multiple choice questions with pre-designed response options for the first part and close-ended questions in the second and third parts. Data was treated using percentage distribution, mean, t-test, analysis of variance and Pearson’s Correlation. Based on the results, majority of the respondents are 33-40 years old, heterosexuals, high school graduates, and married. Majority of the respondents have a good knowledge on HIV/AIDS. The residents of Trece Martires City, Cavite have a moderately positive attitude on HIV/AIDS. There are no significant differences on the knowledge of residents of Trece martires City on HIV/AIDS when they are grouped according to age, gender, sexual orientation and educational attainment, although there are significant differences on knowledge when they are grouped according to civil status. Respondents who are widowed have better knowledge than other groups. There are no significant differences in the attitude of residents of Trece Martires City, Cavite on HIV/AIDS when they are grouped according to age, sexual orientation and educational attainment, although there are significant differences when they are grouped according to gender and civil status. Respondents who are male and widowed have better attitude than other groups. There is no significant relationship between the knowledge and attitude on HIV/AIDS by the respondents
