A study on the knowledge of pregnant women regarding prenatal care in selected communities in Imus, Cavite

The study used a descriptive type of research, particularly survey. A total of 100 pregnant women from selected communities in Imus, Cavite were the respondents. The age of the respondents range from 19 years old to 39 years old. The questionnaire used was adapted from the study of Mabanag, Sarmiento and Dayao entitled “The level of knowledge of primigravida clients in selected areas in Cavite regarding reproductive health education” and was modified by the researchers of the study. Statistical treatments used in the study were percentage, mean and f-test, t-test and Scheffe method. The study concluded that, 1) Most of the pregnant women were between the age group of 20 to 29 years old and have reached high school level of education. Almost half of them are in their 4th to 6th month of pregnancy. Most of the respondents were primigravida and had a monthly family income of P10,000.00 and below; 2) The level of knowledge of pregnant women regarding prenatal care in terms of personal hygiene indicated a high level of knowledge while there was an average level of knowledge in terms of exercise and rest, nutrition, and signs and symptoms. There was a low level of knowledge in terms of consultation and immunization. In general, however, there is an average level of knowledge among the respondents; 3) Significant differences were observed in the level of knowledge of pregnant women regarding prenatal care in the following variables, namely: age, educational attainment, age of gestation and number of pregnancy.
