The rural towns are an important part of the national infrastructure network that is needed to promote the general welfare of the South African society. This explains why the development and maintenance of these service centers is a matter of more than local importance. Investigations into methods to effectively promote the development and maintenance of rural villages should therefore not be left behind on the grounds that most of these towns white population tend to decrease or not increase significantly and their role in the economic life of the land, in terms of proportion, is becoming less and less. Fortunately, several universities in South Africa are doing research that could contribute to the development and maintenance of the rural villages in many ways. However, it seems that those who would most likely benefit from the results of this research or are unaware of these activities or not know how to gather the available schematic knowledge in such a way that for development purposes can be used in the various livelihoods in the villages.*This article is written in Afrikaans
