The great passion in the life of Hermann Friedrich Kohlbrugge (1803-1875) was to give Christ his rightful place in theology. This article deals with his strife for Christ in the field of the Old Testament with particular reference to his book Wozu das alte Testament? Kohlbrugge’s presumption in this book is that only the New Testament teaches us the value of the Old Testament. Christ and his apostles provided the key to understand the Old Testament. The author consequently seeks an answer to the question of the authority and contents of the Old Testament in the New Testament.
