Intimacy in long distance relationship

The researchers conducted a study to find out how couples in a long distance relationship expressed and experienced the three types of intimacy namely, verbal, affective, and physical. The method used in the study was a qualitative, descriptive research design and a sample of 2 male and 6 female participants took part in the data gathering. Results showed that long distance couples expressed and experienced verbal intimacy through Better expression of feelings towards the partner, Quality of self-disclosure, Technology-mediated communication and The couple putting value on honesty and trust in the relationship. The affective intimacy was expressed and experienced by Creating an illusion of togetherness, Expressing how important the partner, Feeling positive emotions because of the partner, Improving ones expression of feelings, Knowing each other very well. Physical intimacy was expressed and experienced by one, Making plans to see the partner, Giving and receiving gifts, and Understanding each other. Physical intimacy was expressed and experienced by one, Having the absence of Physical Intimacy, Exposing parts of the body when talking to the partner, Focusing on other things and The couple finding other ways to compensate for the lack of physical intimacy
