A manual transmission uses a clutch pedal to shift gears in order to move the car. A manual transmission is considered efficient in performance - if driven with correct engagement and disengagement of clutch however the use of a clutch pedal is very demanding to the driver especially in stop and go traffic conditions. The automatic transmission automatically shifts gears with the use of planetary gears. A major disadvantage of automatic transmission is its performance compared to a manual transmission due to power losses brought by torque converters.
