Computer-aided instruction on the programmable logic controller

The subject for this Computer-Aided Instruction is the Programmable Logic Controller or commonly referred to as PLC. It is a specially designed microprocessor-based computer capable of carrying out vast arrays of control functions of varying levels of complexity. It can be programmed, controlled, and operated by a person who may be unskilled in computer operation. PLCs were primarily invented to increase productivity and efficiency of manufacturing lines during the late 1960s, but since, have far surpassed its original automation use and are presently considered a standard device in the industrial field. The contents presented for this subject are divided into three chapters, namely Introduction to PLC, PLC Operation, and PLC Programming, each of which are presented in an interactive manner, by way of Flash Animations and Simulations. End-of-Chapter Exams and Quizzes are present for every chapter to help students assess their rate of learning.
