This research investigates the empirical effect of bank concentration on financial stability using data from the ASEAN-5 economies for the period 2009 to 2013. In the ASEAN region, it is widely known that a small number of large banks dominate the banking sector. This signifies the existence of a highly concentrated market that may create positive and negative repercussions on the stability of the financial system. This paper uses the generalized least squares (GLS) method to assess and understand the underlying relationship between the variables of interest.
