A comparative study of the personality preference of accountancy students in De La Salle University--Manila and the Ideal personality as interpreted in AICPA: The CPA vision project

CPAs are the trusted professionals who enable people and organizations to shape their future (AICPA: The CPA Vision Project 2011 and beyond). The growing demand for the accountancy profession to adapt to the challenges of the global economy has been emphasized by the appearance of standard setting bodies\u27 suggestions of what an accountant should do and should possess. This paper examines the personality preference of the accountancy students of De La Salle University - Manila using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and its conformity with the previous study in Australia Where are the 21st Century Accountants? Personality Preference in Students of Accounting : a Five Year Study, the paper also made a comparison of the findings in De La Salle University with the AICPA: the vision Project 2011 and Beyond. The researchers found out that 19.53% of the accountancy students are ISTJs, which is in conformity with the result of the Australian study. But this result is in conflict with the AICPA Vision Project. We need a better mix of personality now amongst the accountancy students to support what is demand of the profession in the future
